OCF Releases Transitions DVD

Fishers, IN – January 15, 2010

In response to the growing concerns that Orthodox students are leaving their family roots in the Church, Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) has produced a gripping, high definition documentary film and launched a complimentary webpage.

“We decided that we had to do the film after reading that only 7% of incoming freshmen could identify a Christian organization on campus before arriving,” said Executive Director, Fr. Kevin Scherer. “They’ve prepared themselves academically for that transition, but there’s been little or no preparation spiritually.”

This just released DVD captures the honest and unedited interviews of eight different students and their transition from high school to college. Their stories cover everything from leaving home and friends to the temptations and pressures of modern college life. “We made this film to start a dialogue. We want parents, priests and students to use this DVD to talk about what’s likely to happen emotionally and spiritually during four of the most important years of a person’s life,” said Fr. Kevin.

Not only is the DVD certain to capture adolescent attention, but it also features a facilitation guide with a series of thought provoking questions to be used in a home or a group setting, such as a youth group or camp. Fr. Mark Leondis, Archdiocesan Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America says that, “This DVD is an excellent resource. I am confident that it will serve as another tool for parishes, families and even camps to use in their efforts to keep our college students connected to the Church.”

The Transition DVD is available for purchase for $12 at www.ocf.net. To watch the trailer visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma-lgrHxIX0

The new Transition webpage will serve as a pertinent resource for new students. This webpage enables students to search for parishes closest to their college or university of choice, locate OCF Houses, and features links to useful sites like FinAid and FastWeb. The contact information form will allow OCF to collect your information and share with the OCF chapter and parish near your chosen school.
