Metropolitan Philip to Preside at Celebration and Annual Meetings
On October 18-20, 2013, the parishioners of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church of Troy, Michigan will host their Centennial Anniversary Celebration, the burning of the mortgage on the most recent building of their beautiful church and its surrounding facilities (1994-2013), and the annual meetings of the Antiochian Archdiocese Board of Trustees, Governing Council of the Order of St. Ignatius, and the Governing Council for Antiochian Village.
It all began approximately 100 years ago from 1905 thru 1913, when a group of blessed founders emigrated from the Middle East countries to find religious freedom and a new life for their families in America. They met in their homes to celebrate Divine Liturgy and finally organized a small church in Detroit, (1913).
Now, 100 years later St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church is inviting fellow Orthodox Christians to join them in this double celebration. From this humble and steadfast beginning, they are proud and happy to celebrate throughout this historic weekend. Metropolitan Philip will preside over the weekend events along with all of the Auxiliary Bishops.
Following is the schedule of events which will take place at the Troy Marriott, and the St. George Church and Banquet facility. All meetings will begin at the Marriott on Friday p.m. and Saturday a.m., followed by a luncheon hosted by local Board of Trustees members. Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m., Great Vespers will take place at St. George Church, followed by a cocktail hour and Grand Banquet in the Church Banquet hall. The Grand Banquet will be presided over by Metropolitan Philip. The Parish Council, Teen SOYO and the Centennial Committee will be offering a few words, along with Metropolitan Philip’s main address.
Sunday morning Matins will take place at 9:00 a.m. followed by Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. All will be invited to a special luncheon in the banquet facility. Sunday evening a special dinner will be hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Walid Khalife, for board members and special guests.
