His Eminence Metropolitan Joseph Consecrates St. Ignatius Antiochian Orthodox Church of Florida, New York

On Saturday October 31, 2015, His Eminence Metropolitan Joseph, assisted by His Grace Bishop Nicholas, consecrated the Church of St. Ignatius of Antioch located in Florida, New York, pastored by Very Rev. George Kevorkian.  Also celebrating were 14 members of clergy from the New York Metropolitan Deanery.  There were 200 of the faithful in attendance and the day was made more beautiful by a combined choir from the area churches.

In his homily, Metropolitan Joseph stressed the importance of a church consecration as the setting aside of the church as a sacred place.  The altar was washed with soap and water, sprinkled with rosewater, and anointed with Holy Chrism. The relics of St. Raphael of Brooklyn, along with a listing of all of the living and departed members of the church, were placed into a special niche in the altar. The icons of the four evangelists were fastened to the corners of the altar table with wax, and a brand new undercover and altar covering were blessed and placed on the altar. Finally a procession was made around the church where His Eminence anointed the walls and icons with Holy Chrism.
The church services were followed by a luncheon which was held at the Falkirk Estates and Country Club in Central Valley, New York.  The day was truly glorious and represented a magnificent milestone in the life of this young church community.  May our Gracious and Loving Lord bless our efforts as we move from Glory to Glory.
