AWE Letter from the President, September 2015
Antiochian Women of the East
Diocese of New York and Washington D.C.
& Diocese of Charleston, Oakland, and the Mid-Atlantic
September 29, 2015
Dear Reverend Fathers and Beloved Sisters in Christ,
Christ is in our midst! I pray that you and your families are well, and that your summer was healthy and fruitful. I am honored to have been elected to serve as President of our two Dioceses, better known as the Antiochian Women of the East (AWE). I previously served as Treasurer for the AWE for two terms from 2011-2015. Elected for their second term are Julia Kalyoussef as Vice President/Project Coordinator and Grace Dibi as Secretary. Kh. Rima Zafaran was kind to step into the Treasurer position and Cathy Firek is our Religious Coordinator. Of course, Fr. Don Shadid is back to guide us as our Spiritual Advisor. As you can see from the enclosed Roster, we are still in need of a Humanitarian, a Membership, and a Public Relations Coordinator. Please reach out to me if the Holy Spirit moves you to volunteer as one of these coordinators.
For those of you who don't know me, I was Chrismated an Antiochian Orthodox Christian (formerly Melkite Catholic) on November 26, 1997, prior to marrying my husband, Faraj, of almost 18 years. The warm welcome I received from my home parish, St. George Church of Little Falls, prompted me to become a very active member of the church, especially as part of the Ladies' Society. Faraj and I have two beautiful girls, Victoria and Sophia, who are also extremely active in Teen SOYO and St. George Church as a whole.
I beseech you to pray for me, as well as the Board and Coordinators, as we serve this most worthy ministry of the Antiochian Archdiocese for the next two years. The Antiochian Women of the East (AWE) is blessed to consist of 40 Parishes and 6 Missions (see the enclosed list) from Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. The distance from parish to parish may be vast, but our mission is the same. We are here to honor and serve God and the Antiochian Archdiocese to the best of our abilities. I urge you to use your God given talents to be more involved on a chapter, diocesan, and national level.
In addition to the AWE Roster, enclosed is a letter from the NAB Religious Coordinator and a letter and flyer from the NAB Project Coordinator. Please distribute and share this information in your Parish. Also, below is important information regarding dues and project money, as well as upcoming events:
∞Membership Dues of $200 per parish for the 2015-2016 year are due by December 1, 2015. Missions are exempt, but may still contribute. However, parishes without a Ladies' Society are not exempt and are still required to contribute $200 from their church treasury. A $200 check made payable to Antiochian Women of the East or AWE, along with the enclosed Dues/Project Donation Form, should be mailed directly to the AWE Treasurer, Kh. Rima Zafaran (see the form for address). Please be aware that $100 of the dues goes to the NAB and $100 is used by this Diocesan Board to fund administrative costs. PLEASE DO NOT MAIL THE CHECK TO THE NAB OR ANYONE ELSE.
∞The Antiochian Women's Project for 2015-2016 is: HUNGRY CHILDREN AT HOME AND ABROAD. Project donations are due no later than May 1, 2015. A donation check made payable to Antiochian Women or the East or AWE, along with the enclosed Dues/Project Donation Form, should be mailed directly to the AWE Treasurer, Kh. Rima Zafaran (see the form for address). Please be aware that ALL the funds collected for this project go directly to the NAB. A check for the total monies collected from all the dioceses is presented to Metropolitan JOSEPH, for the Archdiocese, at the Summer Meeting. PLEASE DO NOT MAIL THE CHECK TO THE NAB OR ANYONE ELSE.
Please mark your calendars:
