Purpose/Objectives for Antiochian.org:
A. Primary (The purpose of our website.)
To use web technology to:
• Promote awareness and understanding of the Orthodox Faith and the work of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America
• Support and enhance the quality of the Church's ministry to Her members and Her witness on this continent
• Provide a tool (among many) for effective communication to various audiences, including persons within the Archdiocese, other churches, the general public, and the press
• Enable and promote the sharing of information among all organizations and groups within the Archdiocese
Comments: A visit to our website should immediately communicate who we are and what we are about as a Church. People should get an immediate feel for our personality, our distinct heritage, and the vibrant living expression of the Church of Christ that we are.
B. Secondary
• Establish an information architecture for the Archdiocese website and her sub-sites to:
• Make it easy for our site visitors to navigate to and find the content they are looking for
• Make it easy to administer and manage , for overall site admin and individual sub-site editors
• Promote usage by the Archdiocese members, organizations, and departments ( It gets used )
• Be seen as a valuable resource by our members, the general public, the press, and other churches
• Be recognized as a model of excellence for similar type organizations
Comments: The most important ingredient for a successful web site is having lots of good content coupled with a design technology and information architecture that helps rather than hinders site visitors and search engines to find what they are looking for quickly. We need to make it easy to add and organize lots of good content. And, present it to our visitors in a way that makes it easy to find and is enjoyable to view and navigate.
• Establish and maintain standards across the site to ensure content, artistic ‘look and feel' and accessibility integrity.
Comments/ Why enforce standards? : Sections and sub-sites of the Archdiocese site should maintain a cohesive look and user experience, communicating: “many are the members [of our Archdiocese], yet only one body” For there are differences of ministries, but the same Lord (1Co 12:5-6). Our site will communicate we are a unified body with many distinct and living parts.
(1Co 12:20)
